(September 2007) 'Abel Lawrence Foster' (Sept. 17, 1802 in Littleton, MA - May 21, 1877 in Washington D.C.) was a United States Representative from New York State. He studied law in Vernon, then was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Morrisville about 1827. Foster was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841 to March 3, 1843). He served as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Treasury (Twenty-seventh Congress). He settled permanently in Virginia. References A.
