Rufous Scrub-bird Conservation status Vulnerable (IUCN 3.1) Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Aves Order: Passeriformes Family: Atrichornithidae Genus: Atrichornis Species: A. rufescens Binomial name Atrichornis rufescens (Ramsay, 1867) The Rufous Scrub-bird (Atrichornis rufescens) is a bird species in the family Atrichornithidae. It is endemic to Australia. Its natural habitats are temperate forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is threatened by habitat loss. By the mid-20th century, it was almost extinct, but it has since recovered to the point where it was not considered threatened anymore. Downlisted to Near Threatened status by the IUCN in 2004[1], recent research shows that its numbers are decreasing again after a peak in the first years of the 21st century. It is consequently uplisted to Vulnerable status in 2008[2]. Footnotes ^ BLI (2004) ^ BLI (2008) References BirdLife International (BLI) (2004). Atrichornis rufescens. 2006.
